When Dark Matter's original inshore rods reached their natural conclusion, the need for a budget-friendly option that didn't compromise on performance, style, or value became clear. Enter the SPS series, which quickly became a hit with anglers due to delivering amazing performance, great style and excellent value. The same opportunity was spotted with travel rods, leading to the creation of the Dark Matter SPS Inshore Travel Spinning Rods—designed to be awesome at a lower price point.
These rods start with a lightweight, sensitive, and powerful Dark Matter blank, mirroring the action of their one-piece inshore counterparts. Braid-ready titanium-oxide guides, an ergonomic graphite reel seat, and premium cork split grips ensure comfort and durability.
But Dark Matter isn’t just about performance—they’ve got style, too! The rods feature a sleek black finish with light blue and white guide wraps, making them a modern classic. ANGLERS ARE ASKING
A travel fishing rod is designed to break down into multiple pieces so it’s easy to pack in a suitcase or carry-on. We built the SPS Inshore Travel Rods so anglers can fish anywhere—whether you’re flying to Florida, heading to the Caribbean, or just keeping a rod in your car—without giving up performance. These rods come apart into 4 pieces and include a protective case for transport.
That’s the biggest concern people have—and exactly what we focused on when designing these. The goal was to make a rod that fishes like a standard inshore rod, not a “compromise.” With modern blank construction, these rods maintain sensitivity, strength, and action close to a one-piece rod while giving you the benefit of portability.
These rods are designed for inshore species like striped bass, snook, redfish, bonefish, and similar fish. The available models (like medium and medium-heavy) let you match your setup to the species and conditions you’re fishing.
Most anglers use this rod as their go-to travel setup—something they can bring on a plane, keep in the car, or take on vacation without worrying about space. It’s designed to give you a reliable inshore setup wherever you end up fishing.
This rod is not ideal if you’re targeting very large fish that require heavy offshore gear or if you prefer a dedicated one-piece rod for maximum power. It’s also not the best choice for specialized techniques where a purpose-built rod would perform better. These are designed to be versatile and portable—not hyper-specialized.
