Dark Matter HK Spinning Rods are back and better than ever! The second generation of the HK takes things to an entirely different level with respect to performance and style. The blank gets a major upgrade to F2000 carbon that is lighter in weight but still delivers the same great action of the originals. Pick up one of these rods and it feels spectacular! A beautiful coat of black cherry pearl metallic paint is laid down and it looks great, especially in the sun. The grips have been upgraded to a higher grade EVA and have been reshaped for extra comfort. All models now have a Fuji DPS Graphite Reel Seat with a locking ring to accommodate your favorite spinning reel. The Fuji Alconite K Guides with stainless steel frames that are perfect for fishing braided lines and are corrosion resistant.  The rear contoured EVA grip has a rubber gimbal for when you are working with a belt.

The original Dark Matter HK Spinning Rods had just one model. A 7' H that has been renamed the Y. A lighter version called the W has been added to flesh out the series. The W is the perfect coastal rod for all things Florida and excels in the Northeast as well. The Y works great jigging or popping so it's a great option if you want to do both those things but aren't ready to commit to two different setups. HK stands for Hunter/Killer and you'll find out why when you take one on your next fishing trip!

Dark Matter HK Spinning Rods come with a 1-year limited warranty. They are 7' one-piece. These rods re the perfect blend of performance and style. This is what Dark Matter is all about!

ANGLERS ARE ASKING

A spinning rod is used for casting, jigging, and fishing live or cut bait without the complexity of a conventional setup. It’s the most user-friendly option for offshore and nearshore fishing, especially when you need versatility and ease of use.

The HK-W is designed for species like striped bass, bluefish, sea bass, cod, snook and other nearshore fish. The HK-Y is built for tuna. It's a great choice when you want to jig and pop with one setup.

Most anglers pair this rod with a 5000–14000 size spinning reel, depending on the model and how they plan to fish. Smaller setups are great for lighter applications, while larger reels provide more power and line capacity for deeper water or bigger fish.

It depends on how you fish. Spinning rods are easier to use and better for casting and versatility, while conventional rods offer more power and control for heavy-duty bottom fishing. Most anglers choose spinning setups when they want simplicity and flexibility.

This rod is not ideal for ultra-light fishing or finesse techniques. It’s also not the right choice if you’re targeting very large offshore species that require heavy-duty conventional setups. If you want a highly specialized rod for a single technique, there are more specific options available.
