Dark Matter HK Casting Rods have gotten a major upgrade for the second generation! It starts with an upgraded blank constructed of F2000 carbon that is lighter in weight but still delivers the same great action of the originals. The overall design is completely different with a beautiful coat of black cherry pearl metallic paint that is nothing short of gorgeous! The grips have been upgraded to a higher grade EVA and have been reshaped for extra comfort. All models now have a black aluminum ALPs reel seat to accommodate your favorite conventional reel. The Fuji Alconite K Guides with stainless steel frames that are perfect for fishing braided lines and are corrosion resistant. These rods have a matching black ALPs gimbal beneath the rear grip. The second generation model Dark Matter HK Casting Rods have been renamed. The H has become the X and the XXH is the Z. HK stands for Hunter/Killer and you'll find out why when you take one on your next fishing trip!
The X is the perfect rod for eeling at Montauk, fishing for tog in 80+ feet of water, larger grouper, cobia and small tuna. The Z is a beast and was designed to handle bigger tuna in blue water. It's excels at chunking and trolling. We designed the HK Casting Rods to be true multi-purpose offshore rods. The goal was to create a rod that could handle bottom fishing, jigging, and chunking without forcing anglers into a highly specialized setup. These are the rods you grab when you want one setup that can do a lot of things well.
When we built the HK series, the focus was on reducing weight without sacrificing strength. Traditional offshore rods can feel heavy and tiring, so we used a higher-end carbon blank to improve responsiveness and comfort while still maintaining the lifting power needed for serious fish. Also, the color is really cool!
We designed this rod for anglers who fish offshore regularly and want a dependable, versatile setup. It’s also a great option for anglers stepping up from entry-level gear into something lighter, stronger, and more refined.
This rod is not designed for light inshore fishing or finesse applications. It’s also not the right fit if you prefer spinning gear or are looking for a highly specialized rod for a single technique like slow pitch jigging. If you’re targeting smaller species or want an ultra-light setup, this rod will feel like more than you need.
The HK-X works great with a 12 or 16 while the Z can accommodate a 20-25 size reel.
